It’s very difficult not to find a maniac heaving assembly when Sergio performs. Rated as one of South Africa’s most successful DJs, his artistic talent naturally fills the dance floor within minutes. Growing up in South Africa, Portugal and Singapore to Portuguese parents, he used his Latin emotions and African vibrancy to develop intense passion as an artist.  His creativity and passion for electronic music takes him to a whole new level, allowing him to divulge energies in beats that South Africa and the world immediately absorbed and fell in love with. A conceptualist by birth, Sergio Marques (aka Surge) started off studying photography but accidentally found himself spending days and nights on turntables instead. The rest was history. His journey led him to releasing a string of top selling CDs in the world of Electronica- gently injecting trance, tech & progressive influence, celebrating his 22nd release in 2008. Sergio’s drive and enthusiasm landed him frequent appearances in the country’s largest parties in the South African dance scene, resulting in performances with over 25,000 partygoers and more. 

Sergio’s dedication for his career for the past decade has secured him performances and tours with some of the world’s top DJs and producers including Paul van Dyk, Eric Morillo, Blank & Jones, Cosmic Gate, Ferry Corsten, Sonique, Benny Benassi, Sammy, Armand van Helden and of course, Tiesto.

Obsessed with music, he couldn’t stop himself from producing self-titled CD’s: ‘Surge 2001’, ‘2002’, ‘2003’ and ‘2005’ which all portrayed beauty, love and power. All his albums were indeed chart topping sellers in South Africa. After releasing these successful CD’s (including an exclusive release for ‘KISS FM’ and an exclusive release along with the globetrotting DJ duo Cosmic Gate for their 'Back 2 Back Vol. 2', South Africa series), Sergio today brings to the world 'Surge 2009 - Journey to the Parade’, a completely energetic album that colorfully represents power, love and sheer happiness (his inspiration). Having found a sound true to his personality, Surge made the decision to drop the stage name and use his full name.  His first release, ‘Morningside’ is an international debut release through Tiesto’s label, Black Hole Recordings under the name Sergio Marques, released as a Black Hole Special Edition.

He is now working on taking the dance scene to new extremes and showing the world a revolution in party/dance culture through his parade concept, something that other cultures have never seen before. He now continues to tour and spread his love for Electronica beats to music lovers globally whilst producing music through his global inspirations. After living between South Africa and Portugal. Sergio has currently moved to New York to continue developing his career, realizing more dreams, touring (promoting his latest CD) & production.
